After five weeks of hard work and lots of learning, the "Disrupt: Transforming Science into Tech Business" edition of the Startup Farm Accelerator Program at São Paulo University has come to an end.
During the closing event, Demo Day, the nine finalist teams presented their startups to an audience of investors and specialists in technology and entrepreneurship.
Bright Photomedicine, which develops health technologies based on photomedicine, won. They created Light-Aid, a dressing that aids in the prevention and healing of body aches and inflammations by means of light emissions. The product works in tandem with an app that controls the exact dosing and kind of light for each patient. Light-Aid is scheduled for commercial release in 2017, but interested physicians and therapists may rent it right now for R$ 2.000 per month.
Founded by Marcelo Victor Pires, a Ph.D. in Physics applied to the Neurosciences from USP, and by the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at the Hardvard Medical School (EUA), Bright Photomedicine received R$ 150K in grants from Fapesp.
The RankMyApp startup, specialized in SEO on app store searches, got the second position. The third was awarded to CicloCerto, a subscription-based contraceptive delivery service.
