NEST: monthly series of lectures (or conversations) promoted by FLUSP

presentations

FLUSP is pleased to invite everyone to the pilot event of a project that we have recently designed: NEST - or, also for those who love recursions, NEST Environment for Software Talks. Inspired by bird nests, we aim to create an environment that stimulates the technical development of all interested people. NEST will consist of a monthly series of in- person lectures (or conversations) that will address topics related to free software or software engineering in general. The intention is for it to be an open environment for both learning and teaching. The inauguration is scheduled for next Friday, December 8th, at 2pm, in the CCSL auditorium, and we will have the participation of two special guests: Nelson Lago and Matheus Tavares. The organization of schedules and themes will be as follows: 2pm-3pm: “From distros to virtualization: devs, ops and devops”, Nelson Lago Development environments will be put on the agenda. “In the past”, it was distros and VMs that dominated. Today, the spotlight has shifted to Cloud technologies and containers, often coordinated with Docker. 3pm-4pm: “Debugging with Git”, Matheus Tavares Many tools may come to mind when we talk about “debugging”. Maybe gdb, lldb, pdb, Valgrind, or even good old print. But have you ever thought about how to take advantage of git in this process? Knowing how to maintain and extract information from a code repository are excellent allies in finding and resolving bugs. In this talk, some of the main git commands related to debugging (grep, log -S, blame, bisect, etc.) will be discussed, showing some practical examples of their use. We will have certificates of attendance. We are waiting for you there! FLUSP (FLOSS - Free/Libre/Open Source Software - at USP) https://flusp.ime.usp.br/
