Abstract:

It is very easy to create robots to search the Web for data, besides the incredible possibility to automatize repetitive and bureaucratic tasks. We will show in this talk how to do it in a simple, fast and effective way, using Nokogiri, RestClient, JSON, and some other Ruby gems. What is possible to automate? What are the challenges that were not overcomed? How to avoid Robots in your web site?

About the author:

Daniel Cukier  works with software development since 1995, mainly with Java and Ruby (Rails). He is Computer Science PhD student in trabalha USP, the same University he did the mastering in the theme Patterns for Introducing New Ideas in the Software Industry. Daniel is part of the agile community since 2005, when he entered Agilcoop, producing podcasts, articles and giving courses about agility. Introduced agile methods in Locaweb, the biggest web hosting in Latin America, where he also participated in many tech projects with SaaS and IaaS. Organizes DevOpsDays Brasil event, a meeting with developers and sysadmins. Daniel is author of the blog AgileAndArt, where he is used to write about the similarities between software development and arts. Besides his work with software, he is also an actor, musicist (plays guitar) and poet.
