FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about the FLOSS CC Network:

  1. What is the FLOSS CC Network?
Quoting our homepage: The FLOSSCC network is a world-wide initiative promoted by FLOSS enthusiasts from Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, and USA.

The objective of each Competence Centre is to act locally in its geographical region, working as a meeting point and knowledge repository in the field of FLOSS and of its own specialties. Competence Centres also collaborate in a worldwide community exchanging experiences, methods, and solutions to expand and spread knowledge on FLOSS. These Centres work as catalysts, fostering trust and reliability of FLOSS, both in the software industry and in society.

All Competence Centres share a common ethics and culture of collaboration that is expressed in the Manifesto for FLOSS Competence Centres.

  2. Where can I find a FLOSS Competence Centre near me?
Check out the list of currently affiliated competence centers.
  3. My institution is a strong supporter of FLOSS; how can I create or become an affiliated competence centre?
If your institution agrees with the FLOSSCC Manifesto and is interested and able to work in the way that is described there, send an email to yuri.glickman at fokus dot fraunhofer dot de with a brief description of your activities and interests and he will get in touch with you.
  4. Where can I find information on how to set up a new FLOSS Competence Centre?
There's not much information about that yet. The Qualipso research project has a document on how to create a Qualipso Competence Centre, which is a FLOSS Competence Centre that disseminates the knowledge created in this research project. Even if your goal is not not create a Qualipso CC but a general FLOSS CC, this document may inspire you; it's called Qualipso Competence Centre Guidelines.
