Dr. Laura Shemilt offered a lecture titled “The emergence of Research Software Engineering and its impact in Academia” at the CCSL.
Abstract: Research Software Engineering brings together the skills of software engineering and academic research and has been part of the academic landscape in the UK for the last 14 years. In that time it has gone from a grassroots movement to becoming a recognized career path. RSE has now spread internationally with over 40 RSE societies worldwide. RSE is dedicated to applying good software practices to research to accelerate our research work and to make it more accessible to everyone. In this talk I will discuss the origins of RSE, my experience and the important skills and work that RSE’s do. I will focus on the areas of Data Managment and GREEN RSE.
