Abstract:
In this talk Valdemar will do an abstract, some analysis and complementations of the Nicholas Carr book "The Shallow -- What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains". Carr calls our attention to the fact that Internet produces losses in our mental concentration capacity and in activation of long term memory, as well as how hypertext and hypermedia in a text harm our comprehension about the content. He cites researches showing that mental distraction caused by Internet can sometimes affect even moral decisions. Other topics not coverd by the book, like Internet usage by childs and youngs, will be covered, as well as how we can act to balance the non-desireble effects of computers and their networks.
