Project

Project's Name: High Performance Applications for Smart Cities with “The Machine”: Modeling, Simulation, and Development

Project's Acronym: MOS II

Department of Institute: Department of Computer Science of Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of University of São Paulo

Introduction

“The Machine” is a computational platform developed initially by HP Labs, but currently involving worldwide universities. This platform proposes to innovate the concept of computing proposing a new architecture more adequate to computational required by areas such as Smart Cities and Internet of Things.

Motivations

The scenario of smart cities motivates this project. In those cities, numerous sensors will produce e transmit a high volume of data continuously, which will be processed and used in real-time applications. These requirements have a double role: they help the comprehension of “The Machine” capabilities and also drive “The Machine” development with the use of new technologies.

Objective

The scientific long-term goal consists of supporting the development and adoption of applications based on “The Machine” for smart cities. Currently, it will be done by the study, in particular, of two research lines:

1) Modeling and auto tune of “The Machine” performance

2) Modeling and simulation of smart cities
