VIII Software Engineering Education Forum (FEES 2015)

part of Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering

Belo Horizonte – MG – Brazil

Software engineering education traditionally occurs in computer science and engineering courses but has expanded to technological courses, bachelor degrees, residences programs, professional master programs and corporate training. All these different forms of educational processes require guidance from both academia and industry and has been supported and leveraged by efforts from various computing institutions and scientific societies. The ACM and IEEE Software Engineering Curriculum Guidelines SE2004 (http://sites.computer.org/ccse/) emerged from one of these efforts and provide guidance to academic institutions to define their undergraduate courses. The SWEBOK is another example aiming to describe the widely accepted knowledge about software engineering.

In Brazil, some bachelor degrees in Software Engineering were created in recent years. This scenario motivates educators, researchers and students to exchange their experiences and knowledge about teaching and learning in Software Engineering.

The Software Engineering Education Forum (FEES) aims to be a place and a time where, through publications, presentations, panels and experience reports, the Brazilian community think over on how to go forward in the teaching and learning processes in the Brazilian context.

The FEES 2015 has several motivations and important challenges, among which we highlight:

  • What are the curricular guidelines for a Bachelor in Software Engineering?
  • What is the software professional profile in the Brazilian industry?
  • How to train professionals for a globalized world?
  • How to deal with the rapid technological developments and how this affects the structures and curriculum components?
  • How to introduce the paradigms of "design thinking", "engineering thinking" “system thinking " in the context of computing and software engineering?
  • How to apply long terms practices with large teams in software engineering courses?
  • How to teach in a small scale what is only relevant on a large scale?

FURTHER INFORMATION

In the FEES 2015 there will be a section that will discuss the ongoing refinements of skills and competencies of graduates of software engineering courses, conducted by several working groups and coordinated by Prof. Daltro Nunes (UFRGS). This work was drawn up in 2013 and also in FEES 2014, and FEES2015 is the last opportunity for adjustments in refinements.

There will also be a panel where we will discuss proposals and ideas in ways of conduction projects on interaction with the community in the software engineering context. The goal is to have the participants in this workshop, as well as professionals, graduate and undergraduate students so that they bring the vision from the perspective of the student.
