Software developers have long observed that certain patterns recur and endure across different applications and systems. The growing interest in Design Patterns, Architectural Patterns, Analysis Patterns, Pedagogical Patterns, and so on, represents an effort to catalog and better communicate knowledge, providing handbooks of proven solutions to common problems.

Better Science Through Art

CSSL is proud to announce the Event "Better Science Through Art" with Joe Yoder and Richard Gabriel.

Common wisdom says that science and art are entirely different beasts; moreover, a similar source of wisdom tells us that science is valuable to society while art is a luxury. Why else would schools drop art from their curricula over the past 20 years? But artists and scientists approach their work in similar if not identical ways.

CCSL invites all for a very special video session!

If you want to know more about the free software movement and the people involved, the history of Linux and how a revolution began innocently, do not miss the screening of "The Code" in the auditorium Jacy Monteiro Tuesday , September 1 at 16h.

The film has 59 minutes (very short!) And includes statements from several key people in the world of free software. This is a documentary prepared for the Finnish TV (land of Linus Torvalds), directed by Hannu Puttonen in 2001.

Lua was created and is developed in Brazil, with significant usage worldwide, specially in the gaming industry. Ruby, together with the Rails framework, introduced a new paradigm for the development of database-backed web applications, with increades productivity.

INdT Mobility Week at CCSL IME-USP

The IME-USP FOSS Competence Center and the IndT (Nokia Institute odf Tecnology) promote at IME-USP, from 08-25 to 08-29, the Mobility Week with lectures and training on the platform maemo (languages C and Python).
The novelty will be the involvement of designers who will speak on design for software (mobile applications and open source).

3th Free Software Paraná Circuit at CCSL IME-USP

The IME-USP FOSS competence center receives CELEPAR, informatics enterprise of Paraná government, one of the most active institutions in the production and dissemination of free software in the public sphere, to promote the Paraná Free Software Circuit on August 22 and 23. The event has been done for more than two years itinerantly around Brazil. This year, the stage of São Paulo has the endorsement of IME and the CCSL. Participate!
