The CCSL (FLOSS Competence Center) at USP is a member of the International FLOSS Competence Center Network which, besides Brazil, is present in many other countries, such as Spain, Germany, Italy, France, India, and Japan.
The USP CCSL encompasses activities related to undergraduate and graduate education, research, development, and publicizing of Free and Open Source Software at USP and is comprised of formally established centers at the city of São Paulo (IME) and São Carlos (ICMC). The CCSL also has collaborators at EACH/USP-Leste and at Poli, thanks to PoliGNU. Its projects are funded by FINEP, the USP rectorate and research pro-rectorate, and by agencies such as CNPq, CAPES, FAPESP, and the European Comission.
Its main goal is to foster the development, research, and adoption of FLOSS (Freely-licensed Open Source Software) both inside and outside the University. As such, it acts as an umbrella organization for several scientific and technological research projects, free and open source development projects, community events, technical courses, and technical and scientific support on topics related to free software and open standards.
