Simon Phipps talks about "Open Source Concepts and Realities"

Don't miss the chance to meet Simon Phipps, one of the most influential persons in the FLOSS community, responsible for the open-sourcing of the JVM and Solaris.

He will be at the CCSL next Monday the 27th and will talk about "Open Source Concepts and Realities", focusing on two main themes: "Open Source Means Business Value" and "Open Source Communities".

The schedule is:

14:00h - Open Source Means Business Value

This session will consider the relationship between core business values associated with open source (cost control, flexibility, investment protection and more) and the core philosophical values of software freedom. It will also consider the effects of software patents, trademarks and copyright reform on those business values.

15:30h - Break

16:00h - Open Source Communities

This session will consider the kinds of communities that gather around an open source commons and how to evaluate them. It will also discuss the changes being considered at the Open Source Initiative (OSI).

17:30h -Close

About the speaker: Simon Phipps is chief strategy officer at identity startup ForgeRock, a director of the Open Source Initiative and writes for IDG’s ComputerWorldUK as well as his own blog, webmink.com. He’s been in the computer industry around 30 years and has worked for Sun, IBM and Unisys among others.
